Renowned wool industry talent Kevin Beaton has joined Elders as a District Wool Manager and Merino Stud Stock Specialist, based at Hamilton, Victoria.

With decades of experience across all facets of the Australian wool industry, Kevin’s appointment has strengthened the Elders livestock and wool team throughout Victoria.
Kevin shared that it has been a long time coming, after initially being approached by Elders several years ago. While interested, he was unable to pursue the opportunity due to his commitments running his own Merino stud. After starting to transition his farm to the next generation three years ago, Kevin found the perfect opportunity to join Elders in late 2024.
Kevin said his varied experience and longstanding industry connections will be invaluable in the role.
“I have had a lifetime in the industry, but my earliest recollection is from when I was about 16 accompanying my father to buy stock at Hamilton; for me that is where it all began,” Kevin said.
“I established our Merino stud back in 1978, and that became registered in 1982.
“I have also spent time in other areas of the industry, as a wool classer, working with contractors and private companies, as well as a wool representative in other rural services businesses.
“In this new role, whether I’m working with stud stock or wool clients, my priority is building strong, lasting relationships by truly understanding my clients’ needs,
"I’m committed to helping clients achieve their goals and improve their flocks.”
Kevin credits open communication with clients as the key to success.
“It’s about having those discussions and drawing on past experiences,” he said.
“My background in sheep classing and firsthand experience as a grower have helped me understand things from a client’s perspective.”
Joining a company with a rich history in wool and livestock, Kevin is looking forward to building on Elders’ 185-year legacy by mentoring the next generation of talent.
“Stockmanship requires a balance of technical knowledge and practical experience,” he said.
“By listening, learning from others, and keeping an open mind, you can determine what’s best for your clients.
“I’m particularly excited to be part of a company that is so committed to the future of Australian wool, and with a team who prides themselves on professionalism and attention to detail.”
