Strong result at Elders Top of the Range working dog auction

The second ‘Top of the Range’ working dog auction was held last month in Guyra, topping at $8,600 and averaging $5,145.

L-R Myles Williams, Elders Armidale and Guyra, buyer Luke, Ned and Jack Newberry, Guyra, and vendor James Ince, Armidale, with the top-priced dog Lucy.

Elders Guyra and Armidale were pleased to present the second ‘Top of the Range’ working dog sale last month. Commencing first with live demonstrations, buyers were able to see all 21 dogs in action, before the auction commenced.

The sale was interfaced with AuctionsPlus, and bidding was opened a week prior, which saw strong competition even before sale day.

The top price on the day was paid for James Ince’s dog ‘Lucy’, a two-year-old red and tan kelpie, who sold for $8,600. She was purchased by Luke Newberry and will work on his family’s properties around Guyra and in Queensland.

Vendor Dandylea Partnership took out second and third top prices with their dogs selling for $7,200 and $7,000 respectively.

The sale had an overall average of $5,145, with 16 of 21 mixed age working dogs sold to buyers across New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

Elders Guyra Livestock Agent Myles Williams, who was the auctioneer on the day, said he is pleased to see such great results in the sale’s second year running.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to our vendors, bidders and under-bidders for their continued support,” Myles said.

“I’d also like to extend our thanks to our sale sponsors for their strong support of the sale, and the CWA Evening Branch for catering the sale. We look forward to continuing to build on the auction in the years to come”.
